Oversight and Accountability
CANSOFCOM is an operational command within the Canadian Forces (CF). Like all units in the CF, each CANSOFCOM unit falls under the chain of command at all times, including when deployed on international operations. Therefore, all CANSOFCOM members are fully accountable to all CF regulations at all times, whether serving at home or abroad.
The activities of the CF, including those of CANSOFCOM, are carried out within a framework of legislation that is approved and overseen by Parliament. CANSOFCOM, like all organizations within the CF, is ultimately responsible to civilian oversight in the person of the Minister of National Defence.
All CANSOFCOM units report directly to Commander CANSOFCOM who then reports all of the activities and operations undertaken directly to the Chief of the Defence Staff.
